The project brief from the builder was to design a modern unique home utilising different materials and textures. An eye to detail in all areas of the home was paramount.
First appearances blend a balanced mix residential facebrick to industrial hot dipped galvanised steel frames. The entry opens on to feature timber wall and polished concrete floors. The living areas have 4m high ceilings with high level glazing to take advantage of northern aspect.
The total floor area was 292.40 sqm with a build cost of $313000 giving a construction cost of $1070 per sqm.
Design features of the living areas feature 4m high ceilings with high level fixed glass windows to let in northern light. Large stacker slider doors allow easy access the large patio incorporating a stainless steel ceiling fan for greater air circulation. 2400mm glazing and joinery height follow on with the appearance created of a sense of openness and height.
The kitchen was located to be an integral part of living areas while maintaining good use of work areas and highly polished benchtops and cupboards.
Particular attention was paid to the slab edge detail and the effect of the facebrick exterior wall floating in mid-air.
