Award Winning Design
This project by McKiernan Design Drafting was recently announced as
the Queensland Building Design Awards, 2005 Brisbane North Region and
Queensland Statewide Winner for The Hyne Timber Award for Best
Use of an Engineered Timber Product.

The client’s brief was to maintain the front of the dwelling in
it original form thus maintaining street appeal. Visitors are drawn down
the hall into the new living areas where you are met with raked ceilings
to a height of 4.5m. The feeling of space continues onto the large rear
deck where recycled square posts mix comfortably with plywood ceilings,
timber battens and stainless steel wire balustrade allowing viewing from
this elevated position into the adjacent tree tops.
Natural light is abundant with large areas of fixed glass over timber
framed stackable multi-fold doors. The new kitchen commands attention
with its modern finishes and appliances.
Downstairs is the parent’s domain with the new master bedroom and
walk in robe providing glimpses into the ensuite with timber shutters
and doors. Timber window hoods and battens provide screening and privacy
to side windows.
