Question: When and why do I need an Owner Builder Permit? He/She must be the owner or joint owner of the property and be registered on the title deed. If the total value of the project does not exceed $6600.00 you do not need a permit. If the total value is more than $6600.00 but less than $11,000.00 you need a permit, but it is not necessary to do the owner builders course. However if the total value of the project does exceed $11000.00 you are required to complete the mandatory course for owner builders. This can be carried out with an approved provider of your choice.
